Case of Abbasseya clash victim referred to attorney general

Health Minister Amr Helmy has referred the case of Mohamed Mohsen, a young man who died during demonstrations in Abbasseya Square two weeks ago, to the attorney general.

It was reported that several hospitals refused to admit Mohsen at the time of his injury, even though he was in critical condition, a fact which led to his death.

Assistant Health Minister Abdel Hamid Abaza said the committee that was formed by the minister to investigate the case submitted its report on Sunday without accusing any specific hospital of negligence.

Chief coroner Ehsan Kamil said Mohsen underwent surgery to remove part of his skull due to a large hole in it. However, the coroner has not yet submitted his final report on the case.

Helmy made several surprise visits to hospitals where other victims were taken in order to ensure they received the best treatment.
