Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) Chief Abu Bakr al-Guindy said number of Egyptian eligible voters reaches 53 million adding that a more accurate number will be announced when referendum day is declared.
Guindy expects participation rate in the referendum to exceed 65 percent, pointing out citizens’ general mood can swing by daily variables.
He stressed necessity of highlighting many recent positive developments that have taken place as well as raising awareness by media on the importance of taking part in the referendum. He added that ballot boxes’ legitimacy should reflect that of 30 June through effective participation.
Police and military can secure the referendum process everywhere, he said. Several previous situations proved their ability for security. He called on everyone to take part without fears of deteriorating security.
