The 50-member Constituent Assembly tasked with amending Egypt's constitution will resume discussions on the Shura Council as well as other fundamental articles on Sunday, according to spokesperson Mohamed Salmawy.
The committee's vote to annul the Shura Council is not final though, Salmawy added.
The committee's session on Thursday, headed by Amr Moussa, lasted for five hours, four of which the committee spent discussing the Shura Council.
Out of the 50 members, 23 voted in favor of cancelling the Shura Council, and 19 voted for keeping it, while 9 members did not attend the voting session.
Salmawy also announced that final voting on amended constitutional articles would be broadcasted live for Egyptians to witness it.
