Six state universities on Monday witnessed demonstrations demanding the dismissal of faculty members and the cleansing of administrations of figures from of the Mubarak regime.
More than a hundred students and professors of Cairo University’s Faculty of Archeology prevented Dean Azza Farouq from entering her office. They demanded her resignation and replacement by an elected dean.
At Ain Shams University, protesters said they would continue to demonstrate, as the 24-hour ultimatum they gave for the resignation of their president, Maged al-Deeb, had passed.
Students of the technical institutes and Al-Azhar staged protests before the Ministry of Higher Education, prompting ministry staff to attempt dispersing them with water hoses. They are also alleged to have assaulted the ministry undersecretary.
In Alexandria and Kafr al-Sheikh universities, students and professors staged protests, demanding that the university be cleansed Mubarak regime figures, as they put it.
Classes in Assiut University have been suspended for three days. Faculty members demand the resignation of their president, Mostafa Kamal.
Meanwhile, employees of Beni Suef University staged protests, demanding the right to vote in elections of faculty members.
