Journalists have called for a vigil on Saturday in solidarity with the Al-Masry Al-Youm journalists who have been referred to the Supreme State Security Prosecution for investigation into the paper’s report entitled “Holes in the Police Uniform” that allegedly compromises the Interior Ministry.
Gamal Abdel Rehim, secretary-general of the Journalists Syndicate, said he is attending the investigation, adding that he rejects releasing the journalists in exchange for a fine. “The syndicate is not here to bargain,” he said.
Also, members of the Al-Husseini Abu Deif committee defending freedom of the press threatened to go on hunger strike if the journalists are not released.
The said that they are marching to the office of the prosecutor general on Wednesday to file a complaint accusing the Interior Ministry of involvement in the killing of journalist Mayada Ashraf.
