Students of Cairo University on Thursday staged demonstrations in protest against military police using taser stun guns to disperse a sit-in by students of the faculty of mass communications.
The students said they will stage a sit-in elsewhere on campus until their demands are met. They call for dismissing University President Hossam Kamel and the dean of the faculty of mass communications, Sami Abdel Aziz.
Military Police Chief Hamdi Badin, for his part, denied that the police used force in dispersing the demonstrators. “We only protected Abdel Aziz while he was coming out of the building,” he said, adding that the dean had tendered his resignation but that the president declined to accept it.
Demonstrators presented the attorney general and the Supreme Council of Armed Forces with pictures of military police using force against them.
