Cairo University president to resign

Sources at Cairo University said that within a few days Higher Education Minister Motaz Khorshed will accept the resignation of Hossam Kamel, the president of the university, and appoint his deputy, Hussein Khaled, as acting president until a new president is elected.

“I am considering running in the election once the new system is announced,” said Kamel.

The committee supervising the university elections on Sunday announced the names of the candidates running for department heads, and will announce the final results by the end of this week.

Elected deans and department heads will start choosing candidates for the presidency on 24 September.

Meanwhile, the faculty's syndicate, which is still being established, is meeting on Monday to discuss the elections.
