Egyptian Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Abbas Helmy met with the Japanese Ambassador to Egypt Oka Hiroshi and the delegation accompanying him on Tuesday to discuss ways to stimulate air and tourist traffic between the two countries.
EgyptAir is scheduled to restart its direct route from Cairo to the Japanese capital, Tokyo, starting in September, with a weekly flight.
The meeting reviewed issues of common interest related to development projects in Egyptian airports, including following up on the latest developments in Terminal 2 project at Borg al-Arab Airport, in cooperation with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The project comes in light of the state’s plan to transform Egyptian airports into “environmentally friendly airports.”
The Japanese ambassador praised the fruitful cooperation with Egypt, expressing his happiness at the near completion of the environmentally friendly passenger terminal project at Borg al-Arab Airport, which receives great interest and support from both sides.
Japan is keen to greatly expand the scope of various areas of cooperation and important economic partnerships, he said, in light of Egypt’s current development progress.
