Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy met on Wednesday with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Switzerland’s Montreux on the sidelines of the UN-sponsored Geneva II peace conference.
The conference aims at reaching a peaceful solution in Syria's ongoing conflict.
“The two ministers agreed on trying to make the conference a success and helping both the Syrian government and the opposition move toward a political resolution that puts an end to the bloodshed in Syria by applying what was agreed upon in the Geneva I conference," Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Badr Abdel Aaty said in a statement.
The Geneva II meeting kicked off on Wednesday with 40 delegations heads present, most who are foreign ministers.
They are working on finding a solution for the ongoing Syrian crisis that erupted in 2011 when protests demanding the ouster of Syrian Leader Bashar al-Assad were suppressed, leading to a bloody conflict.
More than 130,000 have been killed to date as a result of the struggle.
