Cairo Int’l Airport gets first civilian chair in 50 years

Egypt has appointed a civilian chairman for Cairo International Airport Co. for the first time in 50 years after pressure from protesters.

Ahmed Hafez, former vice chairman of the company, was promoted to succeed Hassan Rashed.

Air Force Commander Reda Hafez, a member of Egypt's ruling military council, met with representatives of protesters on Monday to discuss their demands and set a timeframe for their implementation.

Protesters had called for ousting airport leadership with military backgrounds. Hafez has considerable experience in the field.

The two sides also agreed to raise the salaries of employees in accordance to the financial capacity of the company.
