Cairo International Film Festival opening delayed

The opening of the Cairo International Film Festival’s 35th session will be delayed to 28 November, said Soheir Abdel Qader, the vice-president of the festival.

The festival was originally planned to open on 27 November, and as a result of the delay will end one day later than planned, on 7 December, Abdel Qader told Al-Masry Al-Youm, saying that the events would remain as scheduled.

Abdel Qader attributed the sudden delay to the protests that were earlier called for by political forces. One protest planned by secular groups will be staged in Tahrir Square against the new constitutional declaration. Another, originally planned by the Muslim Brotherhood to take place in Nahda Square in Giza to support the declaration, was cancelled.

The festival administration, according to Abdel Qader, feared that the participating delegation and actors might face difficulties reaching the festival on time.
