A student died on Sunday after three days of battling injuries sustained when a school teacher beat the child inside a school in Cairo's Sayeda Zainab neighbourhood.
The head of Sayeda Zainab prosecution, Ahmed al-Abraq told Aswat Masriya prosecutors had already started an investigation with the teacher three days ago but the accusations he faces are going to change now that the pupil is dead.
He was initially investigated for "use of brutality."
When the fifth grader was taken to hospital three days ago, he was unconscious and suffered from a brain haemorrhage.
"But after the student's death today, the investigation will continue and he will be charged with beating, leading to death," Abraq said.
Prosecutors ordered the teacher's detention and that the student's body is examined by the Forensic Authority to identify the cause of death.
