The Cairo Criminal Court sentenced two defendants to death by hanging, two others to life imprisonment, four others to 10 years in prison and two others to three years in prison over a terrorist attack in Helwan on a Christian church and store that left 10 people dead.
The court acquitted one defendant.
Top prosecutor Nabil Ahmed Sadiq referred 11 defendants for a criminal trial over charges of establishing, funding and joining an extremist group and killing nine Christians and one police officer.
The Public Prosecution accused the defendants of establishing a terrorist group that called for violating the constitution and the law, preventing state institutions and public authorities from carrying out their duties, assaulting the personal freedom of citizens, harming national unity and social peace, targeting armed forces, the police and their installations, targeting Christians and houses of worship, and targeting public property.
