EgyptAir on Saturday resumed flights to Iraq following a suspension of more than twenty years.
Flight number 625 departed to Baghdad with only 30 passengers on board.
Hussein Massoud, the chairman of EgyptAir Holding Group, said flights between Egypt and Iraq were scheduled to resume in April. However, problems delayed the flights until August.
He said the Egyptian 25 January revolution and other security procedures caused the number of passengers to drop.
Massoud said two Cairo-Baghdad flights will operate every week and another two from Cairo to the Iraqi city of Arbil. The flights will be increased to four a week – as originally agreed – provided there are enough passengers to cover costs.
