Railway traffic between Cairo and Aswan was briefly stopped after stone factory owners blocked railways for 15 hours overnight between Saturday and Sunday in Giza.
Factory owners staged the sit-in to protest a hike in fuel prices.
State-owned Al-Ahram newspaper’s website quoted Hussein Zakareya, head of the Railways Authority, as saying that rail traffic returned to normal at 2:30 am, after a halt of 15 hours. The sit-in delayed at least 45 trains.
The sit-in occurred between the Marazeeq and Mazghouna stops near Giza, which led to a back-up at other stops.
Egypt has been suffering fuel shortage since the January 2011 revolution, which has occasionally led to protests and clashes among people trying to get fuel.
