Security services convinced residents of Asheyy, north of Luxor, to open the Cairo-Aswan agricultural road and the railways Thursday.
Residents had been blocking both since Wednesday with barriers and palm tree trunks to protest frequent power outages in their area. The protesters also set tires on fire, leading to traffic congestion and fights between the protesters and drivers.
Power cuts have continued across Egypt since the beginning of Ramadan despite promises by officials from the electricity and energy ministries that the crisis would ease.
Security services and Luxor governor Ezzat Saad are coordinating with electricity sector officials to resolve ongoing power outages, according the state-run news agency.
Activists and parties have called on people not to pay their electricity bills due to the repeated outages, while protests have taken place in various parts of the country.
On Facebook activists called on the ministries to make advance warnings about load shedding so that the people can store the amount of water they need and protect their machines from damage.
An official source told Al-Masry Al-Youm earlier in the weekl that work is ongoing to provide for the electricity needs of citizens and called on people to ration their electricity consumption.
