Cairo airport source denies security alert after bomb threat

An official source at Cairo International Airport has denied reports that the airport raised its security alert after receiving a bomb threat, the state-run news agency MENA reported Tuesday.

A DPA report earlier on Tuesday said airport authorities raised the security alert to the highest degree after an airport phone operator received the threat from an unknown caller.

The caller threated to bomb a United Nations plane standing at the airport's private planes strip if not paid US$20 million.

But the official source quoted by the state-run MENA news agency said that authorities have conducted their usual checks and found out it was a false alert.
