The government has delayed raising the prices of fuel for further study and in order to choose the right timing for the decision, Cabinet sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm.
The sources added the Cabinet would not backtrack on the plan which guarantees that subsidy will reach those who deserve it and which contributes to solving social problems by developing health services and enhancing social solidarity.
The sources pointed out that raising the prices of fuel would be in the framework of a comprehensive plan to rationalize subsidies, stressing that the government delayed the decision upon security reports which objected to increasing fuel prices at this political critical stage.
The subsidy rationalization plan was supposed to be carried out mostly before the inauguration of the new president, but security authorities recommended postponing the decision so as terrorist groups do not take advantage of the situation by spreading rumors to tarnish the image of the government, said the Cabinet sources.
