Cabinet orders removal of Mubarak’s name from squares, streets and establishments

The cabinet on Wednesday gave orders to all state bodies to remove the names of former president Hosni Mubarak and former First Lady Suzanne Mubarak from all squares, streets and establishments across Egypt, said Ahmed al-Samman, media advisor to the prime minister.

An Egyptian court recently decreed that Mubarak and his wife's names be removed from public places.

"Officials in the previous administration named a range of public institutions after Mubarak and his wife with the aim of pleasing him, and for a range of other embarrassing reasons," the court said in a statement after the ruling.

The American University in Cairo recently removed the name of Suzanne Mubarak, an alumnus, from one of its lecture halls.
