Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said, on Monday 08-Jan-2024, the meeting of the main committee on legalising the status of churches and affiliated service buildings nationwide coincided this year with the eastern Christmas celebrations.
Cabinet spokesman Mohamed al-Hamamsy said the committee reviewed the conditions of the churches and service buildings that need legalisation.
He added that the committee approved the legalization of the status of 187 churches and service buildings, pointing out that the total number of legalized churches and service buildings so far reached 3,160.
At the beginning of the meeting, Madbouli wished all Egyptians a happy New Year and extended Christmas greetings to Christians in the country and the whole world.
The Cabinet’s decision to legalise churches comes according to 2016 article number 80 of the law regulating the building of Christian places of worship.
