Butane gas cylinders shortage crisis to be resolved end of week: Minister

Domestic Trade and Supply Minister Khaled Hanafy said there has been coordination with Petroleum Ministry over the recent shortage of butane gas cylinder, saying that 1.2 million cylinders were pumped daily to resolve the crisis.

The crisis will be resolved by end of the week, the minister added.

Speaking to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Hanafy said that the inclement weather conditions that recently hit the country was the main reason behind decline in imported butane gas causing delay in arrival of shipments due to closure of some ports.

“I reassure citizens that the crisis has neared the end after the supply of butane has been increased,” the minister said indicating suitable amounts have been pumped nationwide.

Coordination with Petroleum Ministry is ongoing over new system to distribute the butane gas cylinders like the system made for bread distribution. “We will propose a mechanism similar to the bread distribution system to uproot the problem. A team from ministries of supply and petroleum will tackle the proposal to discuss how to carry it out,” he added.

According to the minister, the crisis was seen provinces of Suez, Alexandria, Red Sea, North and South Sinai, Fayyoum, Minya, Qena, Luxor, Aswan, Cairo and Giza.
