Al-Masry Al-Youm has obtained official documents from the ministries of trade and finance showing that certain Egyptian businessmen had imported large volumes of Egyptian flags apparently made in Israel.
The shipment of flags reportedly entered the country via Taba or the Rafah and Al-Auja border crossings.
A source at Egypt's Customs Authority stressed that there were no formal bans on importing Israeli products.
“These are just rumors,” Trade and Industry Minister Rachid Mohamed Rachid said of the allegations.
According to the minister's adviser, Al-Sayed Abul Komssan, the Customs Authority had not received any recent consignments of Egyptian flags.
In July, MP Abbas Abdel Aziz had been the first to raise the issue in parliament.
“I’m 100 percent sure of what I’m saying,” said Abdel Aziz. “And I have the Trade Ministry documents to prove it.”
