Bundestag President Norbert Lammert has expressed disappointment regarding developments in Egypt.
"I had hoped that cooperation would be possible between the parliaments of our two countries," Lammert told the DPA on Tuesday.
"Such was the plan between us and the then-democratically elected parliament. In the meantime, however, there is neither a parliament in Egypt nor an appropriate plan to elect one."
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi arrived on Tuesday in Berlin for an official two-day visit that will start on Wednesday.
Lammert had earlier canceled plans for a meeting with Sisi, citing human rights violations and the lack of democratic participation in the political process in Egypt.
