Dozens of Muslim Brotherhood supporters blocked traffic on Thursday in several Cairo streets on the first anniversary of President Mohamed Morsy's overthrow.
Protesters set tires on fire and blocked traffic on al-Nasr Street, Gameat al-Dowal Street and in Haram, chanting slogans against the police and the army.
Police dispersed the protests and reopened the streets.
A senior security source told the Middle East News Agency that Tahrir Square will be closed on Thursday at 2pm to prevent Brotherhood supporters from marching there.
The source also said that explosives experts were deployed to Tahrir Square, Rabaa al-Adawiya Square and around the Ettehadiya presidential palace to ensure no IEDs are planted there.
The source added that security was also tightened in all metro and railway stations.
Meanwhile, police in Alexandria dispersed a march organized by a small number of Brotherhood supporters and arrested six of them.
The National Alliance to Support Legitimacy called on Morsy supporters to stage demonstrations on the first anniversary of his ouster on 3 July.
Also, in Minya, four Morsy supporters were arrested for allegedly assaulting security forces and calling for a new revolution.
