Sources from within the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) in Beheira Governorate, in the Nile Delta, claim that several leading MB members are angry at “the failure to announce their names as founding members of the Freedom and Justice Party."
The sources say that MB members from Beheira presented their notarized procurations to officials, but that their names did not appear among those listed as founding party members in the newspapers.
The sources said they preferred to remain anonymous out of “fear of of being expelled from the group.”
Despite the apparent snub, they affirmed their love for the MB, saying they only decided to tell their story in the newspapers out of a “keenness to ensure transparency within the group.”
The source emphasized that there should be "no more secrets within the group.”
The source went on to say that “leaders within the group should be aware that they must change to keep up with the changes in Egypt."
According to the source: "Group members prior to the revolution were committed to the principle of confidentiality in order to protect the group's secrets out of fear of security harassment. However, there is no longer any reason for fear or secrecy after the revolution.”
Members were especially angered by the fact that members related to people in the group's administrative office in the governorate were listed as party founders, although they are not leading figures and are not involved in political work.
Attempts were being made to contain the problem, which was described by senior MB figures as an “inadvertent mistake”, while those who had been excluded said they would decide their position in the coming days.
