Brotherhood figure’s lawyer calls for filing lawsuit against Sisi

Mohamed al-Damaty, lawyer defending Assad al-Sheikha, former vice-chief of the presidential staff who is on trial for his involvement in the bloody Ettihadiya incidents, argued on Monday that charges should also be filed against the current regime.

Damaty included President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Mohamed Zaki Badr, chief of the presidential guards, saying they should take responsibility for the incidents.

The lawyer complained of the absence of a fair trial for not being public, saying that people should have been allowed to enter the trial sessions.

Damaty also said that a prosecution chief should be investigating the lawsuit, which has not happened as an investigator of lower rank conducted the interrogations.

Sheikha, toppled President Mohamed Morsy and other Muslim Brotherhood members face charges of inciting murder of protesters outside the presidential palace in December 2012.

Damaty called for filing lawsuit against Sisi, the then-defense minister, and Mohamed Zaki Badr, chief of the presidential guards

“Heliopolis prosecution decided to file a lawsuit and sent the lawsuit document to Appeal Court, but the court sent the documents back to prosecution to re-investigate the incidents after 3 July,” Damaty said.
