Salah Ahmed Youssef, a 35-year-old Brotherhood leading figure, died on Wednesday in a detention facility in Beni Mazar, Minya.
He had been detained since 18 September, pending investigations into charges of storming the Beni Mazar Police Department following the dispersal of the Morsy supporters’ sit-in in Rabaa al-Adaweya and al-Nahda squares on 14 August.
Criminal Investigator Hisham Nasr said Youssef was suffering from kidney failure and was taken to the Minya Health Insurance Hospital for dialysis where he died.
The Pharmacists Syndicate, however, denounced his death, claiming he died from torture.
