The Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt on Tuesday denied involvement in the demonstrations in Kuwait against Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah’s decision to amend the law on parliamentary elections, which the opposition says would hurt their chances in the upcoming race.
Kuwaiti media reports had accused Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood of involvement in Sunday’s demonstrations that saw clashes between protesters and security forces, and in which scores of people were wounded.
Security forces used batons and tear gas canisters to disperse the demonstrators, while the protesters responded by throwing stones at them.
Reuters reported that the security forces arrested 15 protesters.
“This is an internal Kuwaiti affair,” said Brotherhood Secretary General Mahmoud Hussein. “We have nothing to do with it.”
The Kuwaiti Hadeeth al-Madina site that is issued from London said Sunday that it was “proven beyond doubt that the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt and abroad led the rioters to plot against the regime.”
