Brotherhood book reflects on 250 days of Morsy

The Muslim Brotherhood has released a new book commemorating almost 1 year of President Mohamed Morsy in power, after he took office on 30 June last year.

The book, entitled "The Achievements of Dr. Morsy in 250 Days," was written by Ahmed Hanafy. No further information about the writer has been released.

The 56-page title features 15 chapters assessing Morsy's legacy in politics, the economy, society, foreign policy, the fight against corruption and the aftermath of Egypt's 2011 revolution.

In the preface, Hanafy claims it is impossible to count Morsy's achivements, adding that the book aims to counter attempts to smear the president by "corrupt" media and opposition forces.

According to Hanafy, Morsy can be thanked for getting rid of military rule and key National Democratic Party (NDP) officials, laying the ground for national dialogue and ending Mubarak-era autocracy by bolstering the presidency with an unprecedented system of advisers and assistants.

The book claims Morsy's presidency represents "the first constitution" in Egypt to preserve citizens' freedoms and rights.

Hanafy adds that the president, approaching the anniversary of his first year in power, increased investment opportunities across Egypt and headed plans to develop the Suez Canal region while also improving the lives of workers in a range of sectors through bolstering salaries.

The author highlights Morsy's appointment of Prosecutor General Talaat Abdallah as a significant achievement, despite the criticism it faced from opposition groups at the time.

Young Muslim Brotherhood members spent Thursday distributing the new book across Cairo, including at Metro stops and public squares.

A similar book was issued in April by education expert Reda al-Masry, who claimed he wrote the book to counter smears againts the president in the media.
