The brother of a student whose mysterious death was blamed on the Interior Ministry has defended the victim’s colleagues who said he was kidnapped from campus following exams.
Ahmed Attito, a public health employee, said his brother Islam had no link to the assassination of Wael Tahoun, a senior Cairo detective who was shot dead last month.
The Interior Ministry said Attito was implicated in the detective's death and declared last week that he exchanged fire with security forces who chased him east of Cairo before he died.
His brother, however, refuted the ministry’s account, saying he was told by his brother’s colleagues at Ain Shams University that he was taken from campus by unidentified individuals hours before he was found dead on a desert road east of Cairo.
Ahmed said his brother had never been wanted for either political or criminal cases and that he had lived normally with his family until the time of his death.
