Last night the Riff Band entertained a full house at El Sawy Culture Wheel in Zamalek with a carefully chosen program of famous Broadway songs and the band’s added twist of Jazz. Vocalists Ahmed Harfoush and Noha Fekry made the evening memorable with singing, costumes, dancing, and acting. An excited audience sang along to many songs, especially the last few. Saxophonist Aaron Jakes was especially appreciated by the crowd who cheered loudly and clapped during his solo parts.
After a great start, excitement in the concert hall escalated and the band left the audience full of energy and wanting more. Glow sticks, placed on every seat along with the program, were put to good use. An accompanying slide show featured each song title, the musical it is from, and the date of production. Some of the evening’s biggest hits included “Stand By Me" from Smokey Joe’s Cafe (1995), "Edelweiss" from The Sound of Music (1959), "I Have a Dream" from Mamma Mia! (2001), "Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man" from Show Boat (1927), "You’re the Top" from Anything Goes (1934). The concert lasted for two and a half hours that passed like a breeze .
The Riff Band’s plays next at El Sawy Culture Wheel on March 15 as part of the Cairo Jazz Festival.
