UK's aid to Egypt will not be tied to solving sectarian issues, a senior official from the British Foreign Office said Wednesday.
On the other hand, Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said that European Union (EU) aid should depend on the extent to which recipient countries respect human rights and Christian minorities.
Frattini’s statement came after the bombing of the Church of St. Mark and St. Peter‘s in Alexandria that killed 23 and wounded scores of others.
Political Director of the British Foreign Office Sir Geoffrey Adams said the recent attack is not related to British-Egyptian cooperation, but the UK is ready to provide any support to Egyptian authorities to help them deal with the consequences.
He pointed out that terrorism is frequently discussed between the two countries, especially after England suffered from such attacks.
The British official said during a meeting with journalists in Egypt Wednesday that England respects Egypt as a country that tolerates other religions.
