Breaking records: Egypt’s Ahmed al-Gendy qualifies for the Paris Olympics modern pentathlon final

Ahmed al-Gendy has secured his place in the modern pentathlon final at the Paris Olympics after topping the first group.

Al-Gendy qualified for the final following his first-place finish in the first semifinal group, completing the laser run, equestrian, swimming, and fencing events. He shattered the Olympic record with a total of 1516 points, guaranteeing his spot in the final.

The Egyptian athlete finished first in the laser run among 18 competitors in the first group. He also completed the swimming event in a time of 1 minute and 59.50 seconds, earning an additional 311 points and placing fifth overall among the 18 competitors.

Other Egyptian Athletes

Omar Reda lost to China’s Lu Feng 14-4 in the round of 16 of the 74 kg freestyle wrestling event.

Diaa El-Din Kamal was defeated by Azerbaijan’s athlete 4-0 in the round of 16 of the 125 kg freestyle wrestling event.

Aya Shahata defeated Spain’s Cecilia Castro in the round of 16 of the 67 kg taekwondo event, securing her place in the quarterfinals.

Upcoming Egyptian Competitions

The Egyptian delegation will continue its participation in the Paris Olympics on Friday, competing in weightlifting, taekwondo, wrestling, diving, synchronized swimming, and gymnastics.

While Karim Kahla will compete in the 89 kg weightlifting event at 4 PM, Nema Saeed will compete in the 71 kg weightlifting event at 8:30 PM.
