Borhamy: Attacking mufti is insolence

Yasser Borhamy, vice president of the Salafi Dawah, addressed a YouTube video circulating online of an Egyptian woman verbally attacking the mufti at the Egyptian embassy in the Netherlands, calling it an act of insolence.

“We revere the mufti, and we do not want such acts repeated,” he added.

Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam was stopped by a group of people on Wednesday when he was in the Netherlands as part of a European tour, but security prevented them from touching the mufti.

Reports initially indicated the mufti was physically assaulted during the incident, though he denied it.

In later comments, the mufti claimed that the Muslim Brotherhood was behind this incident. Sources in Dar al-Ifta have confirmed that the police arrested the woman and her husband, who would be deported to Egypt.

During his visit to the Netherlands, Allam met with the mayor of the city of Rotterdam, Ahmed Abu Taleb, and held an open dialogue with the students of the University of Utrecht, within the framework of an international  campaign by Dar al-Ifta to improve the image of Islam in the West.
