Security services defused a bomb outside the Faculty of Medicine of Al-Azhar University’s branch in New Damietta City on Sunday.
The bomb was placed in a bag next to the wall of the faculty, according to a security report.
Civil protection forces and an explosives expert arrived at the site and successfully defused the bomb.
The report was sent to the prosecution, which ordered taking necessary measures to identify the perpetrator.
Since the ouster of President Mohamed Morsy, Egypt has suffered from weekly bomb scares, whether near government or public transit facilities.
On Tuesday of last week, a deadly bomb went off in Mansoura, killing 16 people and injuring over 130 people. The government has vowed to step up security to fight these terrorist attacks.
