Authorities recovered the remains of three missing UK tourists in Marsa Alam, south of the Red Sea, following a five day search.
The bodies of three tourists were found completely charred inside the wreckage of the boat, medical and security sources in the Red Sea told Al-Masry Al-Youm on Thursday.
Prosecutors were notified for investigation.
Prosecutors referred the bodies to the morgue of Hurghada General Hospital for a DNA analysis in order to identify them.
A fire broke out in a tourist boat carrying 15 English passengers and ten crew members in addition to two guides in Marsa Alam.
All people on board escaped the fire and were rescued except for three tourists who were found later burnt on board.
The initial examination showed that the cause of the incident was an electrical short circuit in the engine room.
The boat was off the Elphinstone Reef near Marsa Alam in southeastern Egypt when the fire broke out, an area in the Red Sea that is popular with tourists for its beaches and diving.
Egyptian authorities said on Sunday that the fire broke out as a result of an electrical short circuit in the boat.
The British Scuba Travel company mourned the deceased tourists, saying, “Our sincere condolences to their families and friends at this very sad time.”
It added in a statement that local authorities and police will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
