A security officer of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina "jokily" reported a false bomb alarm to the administration.
Tarek Fathy, 20, called his security company, assigned to secure the library, and told them to warn library officials that a bomb would go off in 45 minutes.
The Security Directorate and Civil Protection Department sent a team of experts to comb the location, only to find that it was a false alarm.
Faced with the accusation, the officer said he was joking.
Originally founded in the Greco-Roman era, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina contains a huge number of rare books and transcripts.
