A police detective in Beni Suef died early Thursday morning when unknown attackers shot him in the neck and chest, according to the Health Ministry in the province.
A security source said the assailants killed the policeman official on his way home and set his vehicle on fire.
At least 700 police and army troops have been killed in deadly attacks mainly claimed by Islamist militants since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
Authorities blame Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood for contributing to the violence.
