Bellydancer candidate accuses parliamentary election rival of slander

Sama al-Masry, the independent candidate running on behalf of the Gamaliya and Manshiet Nasser constituencies in the parliamentary elections, has filed a complaint with the Prosecutor General accusing her rival Haidar Baghdady of slander.

On a TV program, Baghdady warned Al-Masry against running in the election, saying the people of the constituency will not accept a bellydancer representing them in parliament. “She does not even reside there,” he said.

“He should know that I was not intimidated by the Brotherhood,” al-Masry said, adding that she will not now be intimidated by Baghdady.
