The Free Zones Investment Affairs Authority issued an official warning to the CBC television network Tuesday after receiving multiple complaints over comedian Bassem Youssef's show, El Bernameg.
According to Abdel Moneim al-Alfy, the authority's deputy chief, Youssef must tone down his offensive language to be more family and culturally appropriate to be in line with its license.
Alfy did not specify how many complaints he had received, but did say no public figures had submitted a grievance.
He said that if the channel ignored the warning, the authority would take further action, which could include shutting the network down.
Youssef is already under investigation on charges of insulting the president, provoking public anger against the president, contempt for Islam and propagating lies.
He was released Sunday on LE15,000 bail.
