Bashir pardons 101 Egyptian fishermen detained in Sudan

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir pardoned on Wednesday 101 Egyptian fishermen detained in Sudan fishermen over espionage charges, Sudan's Ashorooq Net reported.

The Egyptian fishermen were arrested in last April in Sudanese territorial waters.

The Sudanese prosecution had decided to release 100 fishermen later in July, though one fisherman remained in custody because he possessed a camera that recorded the arrest of the fishermen.

Before leaving the Sudan port however, the fishermen were re-arrested. The decision was made after a legal representative of the Port Sudan naval base challenged the release and accused the Egyptian fishermen of espionage and photographing military installations.

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi pardoned 44 Sudanese prisoners over charges of illegal migration across Egyptian borders.

They would be transferred to Sudan on an Egyptian aircraft.
