Baseera: 26% of Egyptians oppose Egypt’s participation in Yemen

The Egyptian Center for Public Opinion Research (Baseera) conducted a poll on Egypt's participation in the war against the Houthis in Yemen and revealed that only 42 percent of Egyptians support Egypt's participation in the air strikes.
 
  
 
According to the poll, 23 percent of Egyptians are in favor of Egypt launching a ground invasion in Yemen, 42 percent support Egypt's participation in the air strikes and 35 percent are undecided.
 
Among those in favor of the strikes, the poll revealed that 35 percent of people with a primary-level education support the attack, as opposed to university-educated people, where 57 percent of them backed the war.
 
Twenty-four percent said they back the war against Houthis in Yemen because the latter will pose a threat to Egyptian national security if they control Yemen. Twenty-one percent said the war against the Houthis is part of Egypt's war on terrorism, 9 percent said the strikes are necessary for the security of all Arabs, 8 percent said the Houthis are a threat to Egypt, and 8 percent said the strikes are necessary to protect the Bab el-Mandeb strait.
 
Twenty-six percent of those who oppose Egypt's participation in the war said they are against Egypt getting involved in a war which threatens its stability. Twenty-two percent said they are concerned over the safety of the Egyptian army, 11 percent said it is not the right time for Egypt to engage in a war and 9 percent said Egypt should not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries.
 
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stressed in a statement Friday that Egypt's participation in the war against Houthi rebels in Yemen is limited to naval and air forces only.
 
Saudi Arabia has been leading a military alliance against the Houthis in Yemen since March 25. Hundreds have been killed, including civilians, since the start of the war.
