Banque Misr issued a statement expressing its deep sorrow over an incident that took place on Thursday at one of its branches in Fayoum, after a customer assaulted several branch employees while they were carrying out their duties during official working hours.
This led to the intervention of security forces to handle the situation.
“Sadly, Colonel Fathi Abdel-Hafiz Suwailem was killed in the incident, and we mourn his loss deeply, praying to God to grant him mercy and bestow patience and solace upon his family,” the bank lamented.
“The bank affirms its commitment to the safety of all its customers and employees. As a precautionary measure, the branch was immediately evacuated to ensure the safety of everyone present,” it added.
It assured that the protection and safety of lives is a top priority for the bank.
The bank added, “The details of this incident are now subject to a public prosecution investigation. We would like to express our gratitude to the security and civil authorities for their immediate response and commend the Ministry of Interior for its role in maintaining the security and safety of citizens. It is important to note that Banque Misr continues to provide its services as usual.”
In a statement, the Ministry of Interior elaborated on the incident, which had been reported to the Fayoum Security Directorate.
A dispute had erupted within a bank between a customer and an employee due to the customer’s demand to withdraw their savings prematurely.
Enraged, the customer then assaulted several employees.
A security force was immediately dispatched to the scene and apprehended the assailant. It was discovered that the customer had stabbed Colonel Fathi Abdel-Hafiz Suwailem, a member of the Fayoum Security Directorate, resulting in his death.
