Supporters of Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi today attempted to assault UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon during his visit to the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.
Ban's car was attacked as it left the premises after his meeting with Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa.
Witnesses said about 20 to 30 people obstructed the route chanting, "Down, down with the US and Italy."
Khawla Mattar, the head of the United Nations media center, said Ban intended to visit Tahrir Square — close to the Arab League building — but was blocked by Qadhafi supporters.
Mattar added that some were Libyans residing in Egypt who wanted to express anger over the current Western military intervention in Libya, which is the result of a UN Security Council resolution to impose a no-fly zone over Libya.
