Bad weather in Alexandria led to the partial destruction of three buildings and the injury of an old man with fractures, bringing to seven the total number of collapsed buildings in Alexandria due to bad weather this winter season.
Sidi Gaber Police Station received a communication on Mondaythat a balcony in the 3-storey building number 1 on Al-Tunisy Street has collapsed.
Each storey in that building has one apartment, according to the communication.
The balcony of the second floor collapsed, injuring a 62-year-old resident who was standing in the balcony with fractures in his ribs. A claim was filed with the incident.
The man was transferred to hospital where doctors are conducting investigations to rule out internal bleeding.
East Alexandria local authorities were notified for legal action regarding the building.
Al-Gomrok Police Station received another report that parts of the staircase of a 5-storey old building had collapsed, number 25 on Haret Medwara street. The collapse caused cracks in the adjacent building as well.
Officials ordered the evacuation of the residents of both buildings until they are duly examined by experts.
