Azmy: I am still chief of presidential staff

In his first statement since the 25 January revolution, Zakaria Azmy, former President Hosni Mubarak’s presidential chief of staff, phoned “Mobasher” satellite talk show and said the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which has ruled Egypt since Mubarak was deposed, tasked him with the same job he had.

He also told the presenter that neither he nor Mubarak left Egypt after the revolution.

“The president’s office is an institution that must be kept operational until another president is elected,” he said.

He added that he called Mubarak after the revolution to inquiry about him, but he no longer does so since he does not work for him anymore.

“I salute the revolution that has achieved historic change,” he said. “And history will bring everyone to account for what he did.”
