Head of New Ghad Party Ayman Nour described the arrest of former Prime Minister Hisham Qandil as “shameful and unacceptable behavior.”
“I have never seen Hisham Qandil as fit for prime minister, and I always criticized his performance. But the way he was arrested and the images showing him as blindfolded and shackled are shameful and unacceptable behavior,” Nour wrote on his Twitter account.
The security forces arrested Qandil on Tuesday while he was allegedly attempting to flee to Sudan.
An Interior Ministry source said Qandil was arrested in a desert area in Fayoum accompanied by a guide, and that he was interrogated by officers of the National Security Agency regarding the escape. He was also questioned about whether he had links to violent incidents that occurred recently, the source added.
