Authorities shut down dermatology clinic in Nasr City

The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar, said that a dermatology and venereal clinic located at the Hassan al-Mamoun Street in the East Nasr City area in Cairo was closed for violating licensing requirements.

Abdel-Ghaffar explained that this came within the second phase of the field inspection campaign on medical facilities targeting the Cairo Governorate.

A committee was formed from the Central Administration of Non-Governmental Curative Institutions, and Licensing in Cairo, the Egyptian Drug Authority, and the Supply Investigations Department at Interior Ministry, he added.

The head of the Central Administration of Non-Governmental Curative Institutions and Licensing, Hesham Zaki, said that the committee reported many violations in the clinic.

“The clinic had a license to operate as an orthopedic clinic, while operating in a specialty that violates licensing requirements, employs unqualified foreign workers and practices medicine without a license. Infection control policies were not implemented. A number of smuggled and unregistered drugs with the Egyptian Drug Authority, and others of unknown origin, were seized inside the clinic,” Zaki explained.

He confirmed that a decision was immediately issued to close the clinic in order to ensure the health and safety of patients.

Zaki assured of the ministry’s desire to tighten control over private medical facilities to ensure that they meet health requirements and that their employees obtain the necessary licenses, while applying infection control standards and reviewing the validity of medicines.

All legal measures against violations detected during inspections will be taken, he added.

The Ministry of Health and Population continues implementing the second phase of its field visits to medical facilities in all governorates, under the orders of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar.

This comes in order to communicate directly with citizens, raise the efficiency of medical facilities, provide quality health services, and address any shortcomings regarding medical services.
