Auditing agency to submit corruption reports to attorney general

Gawdat al-Malt, Central Auditing Organization chief, said he will submit reports Sunday to the attorney general on corruption cases involving former Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif and former Information Minister Anas al-Fiqqi.

Al-Malt said Saturday such reports unveil Nazif and al-Fiqqi's roles in wasting public money. The first report, according to al-Malt, is on the demolition of the New Wonder Palace hotel in Luxor, owned by the Egyptian Public Company for Tourism. Al-Malt said he sent a memorandum to then-President Hosni Mubarak in 2007 rejecting Nazif's approval of the demolition, saying it was against the public interest.

The rest of the reports detail violations within the Ministry of Information and the Egyptian Radio and Television Union regarding developments at the specialized, regional and news TV channels sector as well as developments at studios. Some other reports include the awarding of unmerited bonuses to certain employees.
