The American University in Cairo (AUC) will host a celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in partnership with Helm and Dialogue in the Dark on Tuesday, December 3 from 3 pm to 5 pm.
The panel discussion will explore how to empower individuals with disabilities and create a more inclusive and sustainable future, inspired by global initiatives like the Pact for the Future and the 2025 World Summit for Social Development.
AUC’s panel discussion titled, “Universities as Catalysts for Inclusion and Access,” will feature Maha Helali, adviser to Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity on Disability Affairs; Iman Karim, general supervisor of the National Council for Persons with Disability; Amena Elsaie '11, co-founder and CEO, Helm; Ahmed Fathy, deputy chair of the Social Solidarity, Family and Persons with Disabilities Committee in the Egyptian Parliament; Jowairya Soliman, Excellence Scholarship recipient.
The panel, which will take place at Ewart Memorial Hall, is set to be moderated by Rabab El Mahdi ’96, ’98, associate professor of political science, AUC.
In addition to the handicrafts bazaar, the day will offer a variety of activities aimed at promoting accessibility and equity at The Fountain Area, AUC Tahrir Square campus.
